R.W. Holmes And MathWorks Profiled In Local Magazine
R.W. Holmes’s ongoing collaboration with MathWorks was profiled in The Real Reporter, a Boston-area magazine dedicated to real estate. The piece, by Joe Clements, detailed how R.W. Holmes has been helping MathWorks get the most out of their $113 million purchase and upgrade of 20 Superior Drive in Natick. Clements spoke to Garry Holmes, president of R.W. Holmes, about how the firm has been a vital part of MathWorks’ growth over the last two decades.
Holmes’s relationship with MathWorks began some 20 years ago, when the firm was looking to move out of the garage in which it was founded. Since then, he and R.W Holmes have continued to help them make the best possible decisions when it comes to their real estate needs. With the purchase of 20 Superior Drive, MathWorks is taking steps to make real estate a part of the company’s diversified income, targeting users that are looking from 25,000 square feet to the entire 500,000 square foot facility even as the company uses a portion of the building for its own needs.
Holmes told Clements: “That was always the plan. The idea was to buy and figure out how much space they needed and whether there is anything that can be done with the rest…and this is the result of that strategy.”
Holmes and R.W. Holmes Senior Vice President Craig Johnston are working on the assignment, which helps bring MathWorks to a total footprint of 1.1 million square feet. The sheer size of 20 Superior Drive makes it a strong asset for MathWorks, giving the firm the opportunity to capitalize on the submarket rebound that has made Metro West so desirable.
